The sun is a yellow- white star. It is a ball of hot hydrogen and helium gas. At the core of the sun the hydrogen is changed into helium gas by nuclear fusion. The fusion produces enormous energy. The surface is very active with sunspots, flares and prominences. The sun turns on its axis once in every 27 days. Its diameter is 100 times bigger than that of earth.
